Kingdom Rush Vengeance (Steam) Impossible Hero Challenge - Magincia Shores Heroic

This one was way easier than campaign mode, again negating the entire purpose of heroic mode.  I don't feel there was quite enough here to distinguish the heroes and give them grades.  This one again is just about finding the right build order, which again relies on Spectral Mausoleums and Melting Furnaces in combination.  Beyond that your hero is largely just providing support.

Kingdom Rush Vengeance (Steam) Impossible Hero Challenge - Magincia Shores Campaign

We have yet again a map worthy of grades.  This map is very difficult on impossible - unfortunately not in a very fun way, but at least it's challenging.  It also marks the first time in this entire series that I haven't instantly called every single wave.  If it ever looks like I didn't instantly call the next wave in a previous video, it's only because I got distracted for a few seconds and missed that the notification had popped (probably I fell asleep :).

It took so long to get this map done because it took forever to get the right build strategy.  I started with a conventional kind of build, then ultimately ended up switching to an all Spectral Mausoleum build.  That was mostly working, until I got to Jun'pai.  For some reason, he just couldn't make it work.  I then figured out the right way to work some Melting Furnaces into the build order and that ended up being the strategy I went with for all the videos.

Impressions

I will say this about the map - the wave compositions are fiendishly designed to be extremely difficult for some heroes.  Melee heroes have a really tough time of it, and for Margosa in particular this is her nightmare scenario.  Most of the enemies are Anurian Chasers and Wardens, both of which have high armor, but they mix it up with the flying enemies whose name I can't be bothered to look up.  Margosa struggles to DPS the armored enemies and can't really contribute at all against the flying ones, so she earned a solid 'C' for this map.  Veruk, Tramin, and Jun'pai joined her for similar reasons, although they all at least have ways to help with the flying enemies.

Final Grades

  • Veruk - C

  • Oloch - B
  • Margosa - C

Kingdom Rush Vengeance (Steam) Impossible Hero Challenge - Denas' Castle Iron

I'm not surprised that for the iron mode of the last campaign map they let you play with the Blazing Gem - arguably the most OP tower in the game - to say nothing of the Twilight Harassers.  This one is much like the heroic mode, but with the ante upped.  Your only real source of damage are the Blazing Gems.  Again the key is to fill every build spot to minimize the chance of them being disabled, but if you get bad RNG and two or three of them are disabled things can go south very quickly.  As long as you don't get bad RNG the map is fairly self-working.  If you do, however, then your hero choice matters in terms of them being able to contain and cleanup the mess.  Still, the RNG is too great to provide any meaningful grades.

Kingdom Rush Vengeance (Steam) Impossible Hero Challenge - Denas' Castle Heroic

This map was decently challenging to find the right build for.  However, once you do, it then largely becomes a self-working map like I discussed in my last post, meaning the hero you use has little impact on completing it.  So we're back to no grades for this one.  This one would be nearly impossible to grade anyway, as the Big Bertha fire that takes out your towers adds such a huge RNG factor to the map it almost washes out any differences in hero performances.  As with the campaign mode the key is to fill every build point on the map to minimize the chance that it hits one of your important towers.  Still, it's amazing how quickly things can go south if it happens to disable more than one of your key towers at once and you don't have the gold to re-enable them.

Legends of Kingdom Rush Hero Challenge - Asra, Sylvan Elf, and Barbarian

Just like I did Impossible Hero Challenges for all the tower defense Kingdom Rush games, I want to do the same for Legends of Kingdom Rush, ...
