Legends of Kingdom Rush Hero Challenge - Oloch, Orc Cleaver, Knight

Moving on to our next party, I decided to tackle the combination of Oloch, the Orc Cleaver, and the Knight.  This was the one I was most worried about going in, as I made my feelings about melee characters quite clear in the walkthrough post.  The Knight is easily the worst character in the game.  While she has good survivability, that's really all she brings to the table.  She's like a worse Gerald, since Gerald can at least completely negate a hit and cause retribution damage with Shield of Retribution.

So I knew from the beginning I wanted to pair her with the best hero, Oloch, to try to even things out.  As for the third member, I needed to save the remaining ranged non-hero characters for the melee heroes, so that meant adding another melee character.  The Orc Cleaver is one of the better ones, having decent survivability, a stun, and good damage.

Let's start with the good - Oloch is a fantastic character, and in my mind easily the best hero in the game.  In the Asra post I talked about how I liked her getting redemption in Legends for how bad she was in Vengeance, and that is doubly true here for Oloch.  I hate Oloch in Vengeance - he is an absolute garbage hero - but he is very powerful in this game.

What's the key?  Well, to start he has a magic-damage ranged basic attack that's quite powerful by the time you get to rank 3.  While Seal of Isolation was a garbage ability in Vengeance, here his Seal of Immolation ability is absolutely clutch, providing an AoE stun and creating a burning zone on the ground.  His rank 2 abilities are a bit meh, but there's no question about which is his best rank 3 ability.  Demon Lord's Call summons a demon goonie which lasts three turns, does pretty decent damage, and most importantly blows up when killed.  It's this last part that's important, as you almost always can position him strategically so that he'll damage more than one enemy when killed.

As for the Orc Cleaver, there's not much more to be said than what I've said already.  His rank 3 skills are disappointing - his Whirlwind Strike is identical to the Barbarian's Whirlwind Strike that they get a rank 1, except with a worse epic and an additional turn of cooldown.  Still, he gets the job done for a melee character.

And then we have the Knight.  First of all her damage is garbage, only becoming somewhat useful at rank 3.  She does have a stun at rank 1, which is always appreciated of course, but her rank 2 and 3 abilities are very underwhelming.  Since she already has decent health, armor, and armor regen at rank 1, she's definitely the kind of character you don't mind leaving at rank 1 so that another character can get to rank 3 instead.

All in all it turned out to be a decent party to get through the game with.  There was definitely some struggle (and some failed restarts you didn't get to see) due to the melee characters bringing things down some, but overall it was not too shabby.
